The Sustainability Committee is a group at Eaglebrook with the goal of keeping our school climate-friendly and free of environmental issues. In order to achieve this goal, members gather once a week to devise a plan for upcoming Sustainability challenges. In addition, the committee occasionally plans assemblies for the school to view and spread awareness about events or general awareness. Some challenges we have already worked on or are planning to work on include the communications challenge, the Packaging Challenge, the Trashion Show, and the newsletter.
Out of those challenges, one that we are particularly excited about is the Trashion Show. This is a show where students use recycled materials such as cardboard boxes and glass/plastic bottles to create a costume. Eventually, they will all get the chance to proudly present their costumes by walking on the red carpet after Hilly Chase.
Another outcome that we are proud of is the Sustainability Committee Report. The news articles are where students can write about different Sustainability topics such as Sustainability fashion, Urban Sustainability, and Ocean conservation. Through these articles, the committee supports these individual topics by spreading awareness about them. The committee members started this project at the beginning of the year and worked on it through the whole winter. On April 24, 2025, all the articles were published and are now available for everyone to read.
Many challenges make the Sustainability Committee at Eaglebrook such a great place to be. They allow us to enjoy working on different projects while saving the planet, which is our objective. The committee helps our school become a better place, making it environmentally friendly and helping to save our planet at the same time.
