The first week of school is always an exciting and pivotal time for students, teachers, and parents alike. It sets the tone for the rest of the academic year, filled with new beginnings, challenges, and opportunities.
Eaglebrook kicked off the first week with an essential lesson: learning how to tie a tie in our dorms. While it might sound simple, most of the Sixth Formers in Flagler House were unfamiliar with the process. After showing us how to master the tie, Mr. Runk took it a step further by showing us how to tie a bowtie, something none of us had ever tried before. It was fun and surprisingly tricky, but we all enjoyed learning together.
After the tie-tying session, we headed to the cookout area to get to know each other better. We shared burgers, hot dogs, and s’mores, catching up with old friends and chatting about our summer vacations. The time spent in the woods was a perfect way to relax and bond.
The next day, the Sixth Formers went to Morse Hill for leadership activities. We worked together in various scenarios, learning to support each other and collaborate as a team. Later in the afternoon, new students arrived, and we guided them through the same tie-tying process before hiking up to the campfire to share another meal. The Sixth Formers in Flagler House showed strong leadership, welcoming the new students and helping them adjust to their new surroundings.
The following two days marked the start of classes. We had an all-school Assembly, met our teachers, and began settling into our academic routines. After two days of classes, we had our first Sunday Meeting at the Eaglebrook ski slope, where we learned about the significance and history of this long-standing tradition.
Overall, it was a week packed with fun, leadership, and community-building activities—from the new student cookout to Morse Hill to the Sunday Meeting. It set a strong foundation for the year ahead.
