The fall Evening of the Arts has been a long-lasting Eaglebrook tradition. It takes place on the Friday night of Country Fair and is essential to the program.
During the Evening of the Arts, students display their extreme musical and theatrical talents. This year’s evening of the arts includes the String Orchestra, Chorus, and Jazz Band, as well as piano performances and, finally, the play.
Ms. Melnik, the Performing Arts department chair, oversees the Band, Jazz Band, and String Orchestra. Mr. Jodka runs this year’s Chorus, who will sing “Can’t Stop The Feelin’” by Justin Timberlake and “Here Comes The Sun” by the Beatles. Several piano students will work up the nerve to perform in front of everyone for the evening of the arts. Jazz Band is another essential part of this program because they perform a fanfare to open the Country Fair.
This year, the play will be completely different. Two faculty members, Mrs. Syers and Mr. Jodka, will direct one extended play instead of three short skits, as they have done in the past years. The play includes many roles: puppeteers, student directors, backstage crew, lighting directors, sound directors, and background and prop makers, which will make the play less intimidating and more inclusive. The play is called Rokurokubi.
A short, spoiler-free summary: it’s about a samurai who turns into a priest and wanders around the forest. He meets goblins who don’t know that the priest has samurai skills and are caught off guard by his fighting ability. You’ll have to tune into the Evening of the Arts to see what happens next.
