On September 11th, 2024, all Sixth Formers went on a 30-35 minute bus ride from Eaglebrook’s campus to Morse Hill Adventure to build leadership skills.
As Sixth Form leaders, it was valuable to have leadership training before the new students arrived on campus. Once students got off the bus, they gathered in a large circle with the Morse Hill faculty to discuss the plan for the morning. Almost every faculty member present during that day somehow had a connection with Eaglebrook School.
After introducing the rules and faculty members, the Sixth Formers were divided into groups of 10, with a faculty member and a Morse Hill Camp Counselor. To start, many of the Morse Hill faculty asked students to play some sort of name-learning game to help the Morse Hill teachers get to know the group. Students then divided into smaller groups to develop ideas for leadership-related questions such as, what would you find as a characteristic of a leader? Or who would you consider a leader that you know personally?
Next, the students went to different parts of the Morse Hill Campgrounds. The rope course was one of the most popular activities because it was entertaining and challenging. After completing various leadership challenges, the Sixth Formers returned to their original groups, reflecting on their morning. After their final reflections, everyone gathered at the Circle for one last reflection on how their day went, and the Sixth Formers boarded the buses back to EBS with their newfound leadership knowledge.
