The Mountain Biking team is a unique and collaborative sports team that gets to explore the vast mountains of our school.
We work together to clear off the plants on the overgrown trails, and we find a place to dig out a new trail. There are two upcoming competitions for our season this year. The bikers must compete in the race to get a better time than others. The first race we will have this year is against Cardigan School. It is a home game this year on October 5. The place has always been between Cardigan School and Eaglebrook for the past few years. The second race is among ourselves on October 19. We are racing to the Hilltop Farm individual within our groups – A, B, and C.
Our teams are split equally, corresponding to them into A, B, and C. We are a very inclusive team. We even welcome anyone who has never even mountain biked before; you will just have to learn all the skills mandatory for biking on trails. Still, there is a big difference between the three groups in speed, endurance, and skills.
For example, in the C group, they circle the lower parts of the mountain to train their skills, and they learn a lot of new skills every day. Then, in the B group, we can ride most of the mountain trails (except the tough trails that are classified as “double black” or above). Finally, A group basically goes up to the top of the mountain every day and does a more challenging trail. People in A group could clear most of the jumps in our trails.
Overall, Mountain Biking is a very cool sport! Special thanks to the coaches, Mr. Solomon Lakey, Mr. Trevor Borek ’96, Mr. Landenberger, Mr. Stephan Muzzy, and Mr. Tod Pleasant.
