JV1 Soccer has had a great start to the season, and in our first game against Cardigan School, we appeared to be a strong opponent, taking control of the field and staying aggressive for most of the first half.
Their team kept creating breakaways, but our tough defense and excellent goalkeeping kept them at bay. Finally, near the end of the first half, we launched a counter-attack, bringing the ball to one of our strikers, William Frith ‘25, who dribbled past the defenders and scored the match’s first goal.
The second half saw our team taking more control of the game with excellent passing and communication. Our midfielder, Lane Fuller ‘27, deflected a pass and dribbled past the goalie for a goal. Our last goal came from James Dorian ‘25, scoring a brilliant goal from outside the box, bottom right, sealing the victory. With the ref blowing the final whistle, we celebrated our premiere match with a great 3-1 score. Nevertheless, even with this big win, our team continues to practice diligently.
Each practice routinely starts with a warm-up lap around the field, followed by dynamic stretches to loosen up. After stretching out, we jump straight into drills, practicing dribbling, passing, 1:1s, and touches. Often, a scrimmage is organized at the end of practice, where the coaches occasionally pause the game to give us instruction. This diligent training regimen has improved our gameplay immensely and formed us into a single cohesive team.
Our roster consists of Dominic C. ‘25, Andrew C. ‘25, James D. ‘25, Grant F. ‘25, William F. ‘25, TK L. ‘25, Henrik P. ‘25, Sultan S. ‘25, Sebastian C. ‘26, Alonso J. ‘26, Henry L. ‘26, Navon L. ‘26, Ari S. ‘26, Eduardo T. ‘26, Jesse W. ‘26, Frank Z. ‘26, Maddie F. ‘27, Lane F. ‘27, and Dante G. ‘27.
