The water polo team has always been successful throughout the 29 years it has been a part of Eaglebrook’s athletic program. As a team sport, we all participate, sharing our team spirit and skill. The sport demands skills like swimming, shooting, passing, game sense, and, most importantly, effort and intensity. Our head coach, a UMass Hall of Famer, Russ Yarworth, is an enthusiastic coach who loves the game. He teaches us valuable lessons like punctuality and resilience.
This year’s water polo season started with a rigorous three-day tryout session where the coaches evaluated our swimming ability and passing skills. Next, the team underwent a week of training before our first game against Williston Northampton School, which was one of our few losses last year. The team walked into the game with some nerves. However, we followed our training practices and persevered. As a result, the Eagles got their first win of the season with a score of 16 to 9. Two days later, the team played Loomis Chaffee, this time with more confidence, and won with a score of 9 to 3. On the weekend, we had a game against St. Johns Prep. As always, the Brookies tried their best, exhausting all their energy and strategies into the game. The result was delightful, and we brought home another victory! As always, we rally together to show our team spirit, our team cheer being: Brook on 2… 1 2 Brook!
