The Varsity baseball team is off to a great start to their season. After a great trip down to Florida for spring training, the team was able to pick up right where they left off back up North. The first couple of weeks held some challenges with bad weather keeping the team inside after tryouts. The team pushed through their days inside, focusing on hitting and strength before heading outside to get on the field.
The first four games consisted of huge wins, outscoring opponents 45–15. The work in the cages and on the field benefited the team as the bats were alive, scoring runs consistently every game. The boys faced their first challenging game against Cardigan Mountain a week later. In the first couple of innings, the team struggled to get the bats going as it was a pitching duel between them. Luckily, the team gained momentum and ended up winning the game 6–3.
The following week after Cardigan, the team was able to secure a 19–8 win against Suffield Academy on the road. Looking more in-depth at practices, the team has days during the week that are specific to defensive play, working on bunt defense, ground balls, and situational play. Other days are to work on hitting, game-like reps, and situational hitting. Coaches Mr. Jiu, Mr. Hawkins, and Mr. Harlow look to keep practices fun while also working to develop us as players for the next level.
With seven games left in the season, the baseball team looks to do something an Eaglebrook baseball team has never done: an undefeated season. Practices will continue to be filled with hard work and dedication from players as everyone on the team is pushing for a common goal at the end of the season, being undefeated.
