JV football is always a blast. Every practice, we warm up with the Varsity football team. We jog around the turf, then line up to do various stretches to warm up the body. After that, we go into position to do three perfect jumping jacks, which require everyone to be in sync. Then, we split off to do our separate practices.
So far, we have been working on our plays and formation. The team was all handed a playbook that we needed to study. Our offensive formations are Duke, Pitt, Cuse, Navy, Army, and Bama. Our running plays are Lion and Ram, and the numbers range from 21 to 37. Lion is when the two running backs go to the left, and the Ram is when the two running backs go to the right. The first digit of whatever number is called is which running back receives the ball. For example, if it is 24, the two running backs get the ball, but if it’s 34, the three running backs get the ball. The second digit is which hole the running backs go to. Then we have our duo running plays, meaning the tight end and one of the wide receivers run a play. We have Cut, Slice, Chop, and Smash, just to name a few.
During practice, we often practice our catching while running these plays and learning how to tackle. Some upcoming games are against Cardigan Mountain School on Saturday, October 5, and against Athol Middle School on Tuesday, October 15. Our coaches are Mr. Jiu and Mr. Hawkins. Our players are Duncan B. ’27, Eric B. ’26, Xavier B. ’27, Jasper C. ’28, Ryder D. ’27, Peter F. ’27, Michael K. ’27, Edward K. ’26, Liam K. ’26, Xavier L. ’25, Nicolas M. ’25, Pablo O. ’26, Pres P-R ’27, Alex W. ’25, Teague W. ’28, and Rintaro Y. ’27.
