Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the U.S., having grown 51.8% from 2023 to 2024 and 223.5% since 2020. Pickleball started three years ago at Eaglebrook and has grown from 16 people to 24.
Pickleball is played with a Ping-Pong-like racket. You serve behind the blue line, and then you keep playing until someone hits it out or cannot return the ball before two bounces. The game goes to eleven, and they win by two.
We have amazing coaches: Ms.Thompson, Ms. Morsman, and Mr. Lamb, as well as a new coach, Mr. Morganis. There are 24 players on the team, ranging from Third Form to Sixth Form.
If we get to the courts early for practice, we can play games for fun. The coaches pick two people to lead a two-lap run around the courts when practice starts. Every Wednesday, we get split up into groups of six, and we practice our core skills. On other days, we split into groups of Third and Fourth Formers and Fifth and Sixth Formers. Then, we play doubles and singles matches. Sometimes, we do fun activities like Pickleball-Baseball and target practice. We have free days to play games or rally with each other on podcast times. A rally is usually a warm-up when you try to hit the ball so it is easy for your opponent to return. Pickleball is fun and does not take much toll on your body so any age can play. I sincerely hope that our Pickleball team keeps growing.
