The air is thick with excitement every afternoon on the lower field as Thirds soccer gathers to practice. Composed of Third to Sixth Formers, we are not just a team of soccer players but a group that strives for improvement and embodies teamwork, passion, and a positive attitude toward the incredible game of soccer.
As the school year kicks off, every student hugely anticipates sports, and on the first day, the atmosphere was filled with nerves and excitement. Many players have different experiences and skills that decide what team they are placed in, including how well they behave on and off the field. During tryouts, we practice shooting, passing, and dribbling drills that showcase our diverse skills. After a few days, the coaches started scrimmaging the players to note who plays best in a real game by using their skills in more realistic scenarios.
Thirds soccer has led a 2-0 record as of September 26. We played Monson Academy on September 21 and Valley View School on September 25. The first game against Monson Academy resulted in a 1-0 win for Eaglebrook. Our second game against Valley View ended in a 2-1 win for Eaglebrook, with Kijun H. ’28 scoring once in both games.
The incredible coaches of Thirds soccer teach us that teamwork is the key to success. The bonds and friendships built off of this team have connected us more than ever, encouraging us to grow continuously. Passing drills, stretches, and scrimmages led by our coaches all tie into the overwhelming growth of our player’s skills. What soccer teaches us the most is that you need a team of people to win. Without a defense or an attack, the journey to winning would be much more arduous.
