Eaglebrook has many traditions throughout the year, but one of the most anticipated is EBS Talks, an annual event held on Wednesdays. Inspired by TED Talks, EBS Talks offers students opportunities to come on stage and dabble in a variety of meaningful topics. These could include speeches, music performances, helpful tips and more. This year’s topics included managing procrastination, sharing history passions, managing stress and much more. The following students participated in the 2026 EBS Talks: Anderson Aihie ’27, Daniel Liang ’27, Harry An ’27, Taka Takaki ’27, David Park ’27, Toby Teng ’27, Max Qin ’27, Logan Oh ’27, Danny Chu ’26, Chris Jeong ’26, and Jonathan Jiang ’26.
EBS Talks was led by Mr. Robinson, with planning and sign-ups usually beginning shortly after Spring Break. Then, over the next month and a half, we attend several planning sessions to draft and rehearse. Each presentation must be under five minutes, so a lot of editing is needed to fit the script within the given time. We also dedicate our free time after school and on weekends to improve our speech. Thanks to the guidance of teachers like Mr. Robinson and Mr. Pleasant, as well as everyone’s hard work on preparation. The dedication these people put in is what allows us to create effective drafts and present them well.
Once our scripts are finalized, we create a slideshow to accompany our presentation. These slideshows could include images, video clips, graphs, or text, depending on the subject. These slide shows are the final step in preparing for our presentation before we deliver our speeches to the school.
On the night of EBS Talks, spirits were high, but nervousness was ever-present. However, the encouragement from all the attendees helped us overcome our stage fright. Looking back, the preparation for EBS Talks and the presentation itself taught all of us how to effectively convey messages through public speaking. We organized our time well to prepare for the event and presented with confidence. To our surprise, none of our voices were trembling, nor did we stutter. This experience was a chance for all of us to grow beyond the stage, and we look forward to next year’s EBS Talks.
