Ad Libs is an a cappella group for Sixth Form students at Eaglebrook. The group is formed through a thorough audition process in the fall and performs for the first time in the winter. The Ad Libs perform for the school community several times throughout the year. Most recently, they performed “Viva la Compagnie” and “Sh-Boom (Life could be a Dream)” for the parents and grandparents at the Gibbs dining hall on Grandparents Day.
Ad Libs also operates as a daily class. Every day, the group gathers in the Assembly Area during C block for warm-ups and group practice. Ad Libs is divided into three groups: bass, baritone, and tenor. When the session practices are over, the entire group sings the songs that will be performed at the upcoming concert.
In addition, the group performs at large school events, such as end-of-term concerts. One performance the entire group was looking forward to was the Fenway Park trip on Sunday, April 19th. The group got on the bus at noon and arrived at Fenway Park around 2 pm. We had lunch together and rehearsed the national anthem several times before the performance. Right before the game started, Eaglebrook Ad Libs entered the stadium and sang the national anthem in front of the Red Sox players and fans. Some people were nervous at first, but in the end, everyone was proud of themselves and grateful for having this wonderful opportunity. The group sounded great regardless of the echo or nervousness, and the hard work each individual put in finally paid off. After the performance, we enjoyed watching the game and made unforgettable memories.
The group wants to thank Mr. Jodka for guiding us throughout the year and helping us grow as both singers and friends. We also want to thank Mrs. Dickinson and Ms. Kelly for helping us on our Fenway Park trip. Ad Libs is a special Eaglebrook opportunity that most can’t even imagine. All the members highly recommend it to the class of 2027 and want to thank each other for the experience.
