The Varsity football team is off to a great start to the season, with veterans leading the way and helping teammates of all experience levels, new and old, step up their game. This kind of leadership builds both players and a stronger, more connected team heading into every game.
The focus on teamwork starts the moment practice begins. Practice starts with a team jog in two lines, then forming lines of 4 to continue the warm-up, before wrapping up with one perfectly executed jumping jack. These warm-ups prepare both the mind and body for practice. Coaches then start clapping, from slow to fast, gathering the team and explaining what the team is doing in practice today. Varsity football usually shares the turf with the JV team, but gets the turf to themselves during early practice every Wednesday, giving the group some added space and focus to start the day.
After warm-ups, the team splits into position-based groups, where players focus on improving their individual skills tied to their role on the field. From here, the whole team comes back together to run offensive and defensive plays as a full unit. Beyond practice time, players also dedicate time to studying and memorizing plays, showing that football success depends as much on preparation as on athleticism.
The preparation has already paid off. Varsity football opened the season with a 26-14 win over the Fessenden School under the lights, setting a strong tone right at the start of the season. Now, the team is preparing for its next challenge, a game against Cardigan Mountain School on October 10th. Players and coaches are looking forward to beating the Cougars on Cardigan Day.

The practices are led by our wonderful coaches, Mr. Andy Bedell, Mr. Jim Fay, Mr. David Goodrow, Mr. Seven Terry, and our head coach, Mr. Jack Faulstick.
