The Eaglebrook Varsity soccer team has had an explosive start to the new season. However, we are always trying to get better every single day.
The team captains, Laminee Sesay ’27 and Briggs Olin ’27, lead the team in a lap around the pitch to get started, and then jump right into our stretching lines. After the stretching, we do a team keep-away drill to practice quick combination passing and quick decision-making. After that, we work on shooting drills to improve our shots and conditioning so we stay fit. Once the warm-up drills are finished, we focus on special teams, like our set pieces, corner kicks, and defending the box. We want to make sure we are prepared for every situation.
Near the end of practice, we play quick 5v5 games to improve our in-game playmaking. We kicked off our season with a friendly scrimmage against Deerfield Academy, where we had a strong 2-0 win, setting a strong tone for the year.
At the start of the school year, there was great news for the Varsity soccer team. This summer, our school built a brand new soccer field, the Varsity Field. Students and coaches were thrilled about this news. However, there was an even bigger surprise about this field. The company that worked on our field, Tuckahoe Turf Farms, was the same company that installed the grass for Gillette Stadium’s World Cup pitch.
Our Varsity team had its first game on the new field against Vermont Academy and won 8-0. The main goal scorers of the game were Laminee Sesay ’27 and Anderson Aihie ’27. Our most recent game against Williston Northampton was an absolute thriller. It was a dramatic win, with a final score of 3-2! Laminee Sesay ’27 has been having a breakout, scoring 8 goals in three games! One of the main reasons for our success has been our team chemistry and ability to work our hardest, especially on defense.
During morning WEAs, we tend to do team activities to build our collaboration. This consists of trivia, yoga, watching soccer games, and more. Our next game will be at Fay School on October 2nd. The game will be a Night Lights game, and we are hoping to win. After starting the season undefeated and with all the new equipment and facilities, I believe Varsity soccer can have a successful, growth-oriented season!
The coach and players that are on the team this season consist of: Head Coach Robinson, Coach Leyden, Coach Weichselbaumer ’16, Anderson Aihie ’27, Fernando Aparicio ’27, Jack Avila ’28, Drew Carvel ’28, Henry Dowsett ’28, Gavin Krahn ’28, Sangwon Lee ’27, Pablo Leon de la Barra Ariza ’27, Gabo Llaguno Velasco ’27, Christopher Newson ’28, Briggs Olin ’27, Daniel Pang ’27, Michael Qiu ’28, Brody Rubin ’27, Elliot Scott ’28, Laminee Sesay ’27, Lucas Van Impe ’28, Jack Villamizar ’28, Thomas Yang ’28, and Anthony Zhao ’27.
