Water polo is widely regarded as one of the most demanding sports in the world, requiring enormous endurance and skill from every player. Eaglebrook athletes, however, have always tried their best to rise to that challenge, and over the past 31 years, the team has consistently succeeded in the pool.
This year’s season began early, with the first game coming just five days after practice started. In preparation for the opener against St. John’s Prep, the team focused on its counterattack and drilling set positions. The effort and intensity shown in those five practices carried over into a great performance at St. John’s Prep. With much of last year’s Varsity squad graduating, only four returning Varsity players remained on the roster. Despite that disadvantage, the team delivered an outstanding performance, winning 9 to 5. Numerous lead breaks, along with the counterattack positioning practiced all week, made the victory possible. A week later, the team faced West Hartford Club. After a week of heavy shooting practice, Eaglebrook earned a commanding 17 to 5 win. Looking ahead, the team is excited for the rest of the season, with big matchups against Suffield and Deerfield Academy coming up next week.
Eaglebrook’s Water polo team is led by Head Coach Russ Yarworth, Assistant Coach Brie Dickinson, and a new Assistant Coach, David Chatson. The water polo team is lucky to have such experienced coaches who are passionate about the sport.
This year’s Varsity roster includes Charlie Bucci ’27, Andrew Goodridge ’29, Dante Guerra ’27, Ryan Hur ’27, Derek Kang ’27, Fritz Keber ’27, Geo Kim ’27, Leo Kim ’28, Everett Lambton ’27, Adrian Li ’27, Jack Metcalf ’27, Logan Oh ’27, Maxx Qin ’27, Ted Tian ’28, Alex Wykoff ’28, Lawrence Yang ’28, Max Yoon ’27, Alex Zhang ’29, and Charlie Zhen ’28.
