This year’s varsity soccer team is comprised of 20 players from six countries and seven states, making up an incredibly diverse and tight-knit team. Due to the late start this year, the team only had one practice before our first game, greatly challenging the players’ skills, perseverance, mental toughness, and teamwork ability.
Almost every practice starts with a lap around the pitch, followed by a dynamic stretch led by the three captains: Brady C. ‘25, Nikita D. ‘25, and Max N. ‘25. The team heads to separate training and small-scaled competition followed by a modified scrimmage, typically ending the practice running set plays. The most effective play so far is directed by one of the most cherished players on the team, Inaki OM ‘25. However, this season got off to a poor start, suffering a heartbreaking 4-3 defeat to Williston Northampton.
The team shows lots of potential, but players must work on their minor mistakes. Coach Robinson emphasizes finding an identity as a team. This goal has been the main focus, leading to a Friday night lights game against fellow students from the Fay School.
Going into the game, the whole team knew this would be one of the season’s biggest challenges. Fay brought their entire school out for this game, making it an unforgettable experience. The first half was back and forth until Fay capitalized with 15 minutes to go in the first. As the second half started, it was clear that Eaglebrook was the better team, as it seemed like chance after chance.
Eaglebrook had finally found the equalizer in the 55th minute with a fantastic play by Mateo M. ‘25, who appeared to have become the fastest man alive. The game kept going back and forth in possession with some big stops by the Eaglebrook defensive core. These stops translated into a Sixth Form veteran Sangho S. ‘25, blistering a shot to the top right corner in the 77th minute. This series of events made for an unforgettable game, with the great 2-1 victory for Eaglebrook.
The roster of the Eaglebrook Varsity soccer team is Lucas A. ‘26, Cameron C. ‘25, Brady C. ‘25, Iago C. ‘26, Nikita D. ‘25, Alex F. ‘26, Santi G. ‘26, MacLean H. ‘25, Guille LN ‘26, Alex L. ‘25, Mateo M. ‘25, Max N. ‘25, Inaki OM ‘25, Daniel P. ‘26, Dima P. ‘25, Santi R. ‘26, Gabo R. ‘26, Sangho S. ‘25, Walker S. ‘25, and Edward Y. ‘25.
