Tennis is one of the most popular sports in the world. At Eaglebrook, it’s the highlight of the spring season. We have four competitive teams: Varsity, JV1, JV2, and Thirds. The JV2 team is coached by two brilliant coaches, Mr. Huang ‘86 and Mr. Morganis. Our team consists of twelve hard-working players who practice daily from 2:20 pm to 3:30 pm.
We begin each practice by running five laps around two tennis courts. Then, we continue with drills such as “King of the Court” and singles or doubles scrimmages. At the end of each practice, the coaches hold a brief meeting to discuss the day’s work and announce any upcoming events. Once a week, we have a challenge day. During these days, players can challenge below or above their ladder. This system creates a friendly competitive spirit and teaches players about accepting defeat and celebrating victories. If we play our match on campus, we go straight to the court in our jerseys. The top six players have individual matches, and the bottom six play in doubles. Occasionally, the coach might change the lineup to allow lower-ranked players to compete as individuals. We take a small bus to the opponent team for away games. If the trip is particularly long, we’ll stop for dinner.
JV2 is an excellent opportunity for players with a few months of tennis experience. The coaches encourage everyone to play aggressively, and teammates support each other while having fun. It’s the perfect team
