Despite having fewer than ten players this season, the Thirds tennis team has a strong start and maintains great spirits. We have many new students joining the team, and we are ready for a great season.
The season began with us working on our ladder and rankings to prepare for the first match. Players competed against each other and worked their way up. We competed in many games and had to play every team member.
We trained on many different skills like forehand, backhand, and serve. We usually spend a day training a specific skill and talking about how we could improve it. The coaches spend a lot of time teaching us these skills, as many of our players are new to tennis. We had plenty of time to play together, strengthen our skills, and have fun.
Our first match was against Cardigan Mountain School as an away game. We prepared thoroughly, learning their rules and styles beforehand to ensure we were ready. At Cardigan, players were nervous for their first match, but with our preparation, we were ready to win. All players performed exceptionally well, and in five games, three singles and two doubles, we won three games. This gave us our season victory and prepared us for two other matches that are coming up soon. The two upcoming games are in May and are exciting because they are both against Cardigan Mountain School, and we are hoping to have more victories.
Although we won our first game, we are still constantly training and learning new ways to improve. The challenge matches are coming up soon, having a chance to go up within our team and play more matches. The Thirds tennis team is off to a great start and ready to continue working with effort through the promising season.
