The JV1 tennis team has begun the season with a great away-game win over Williston Northampton School. Although we lost a very close game against Choate Rosemary Hall by 4-5, we have not lost another game since then, going against numerous schools, including Westminster, Bement, and Cardigan Mountain School.
Every week, we begin practice with two to three laps around the courts as a warm-up. Following our warm-ups, we usually incorporate a mix of dynamic and static stretches to prevent injuries and promote flexibility. Our tennis team frequently plays challenge matches, usually once or twice a week, using two different opponents. An evens-up challenge, where players with rankings ten, eight, six, four, and two challenge up to their corresponding players, unlike odds challenges, where players nine, seven, five, three, and one challenge up.
After our warm-ups and stretches, the team engages in many drills to improve our game. These drills include groundstrokes, volleys, and serves, all of which aid our tennis games. After the drills, our coaches designate players to form singles and doubles matches in order to play real matches and implement in-game drills.
We plan to maintain an enjoyable and supportive environment for tennis, winning our games with good sportsmanship. The JV1 team includes Brooks Hinkle ’28, Daniel Li ’29, James Lin ’26, Lucas Pearman ’27, Thomas Yang ’28, Lawrence Yang ’28, Max Yao ’26, Max Yoon ’27, Leo Yu ’29, and Bryan Zhang ’28, with coaches Ginny Morsman and George Morganis.
