Track and Field at Eaglebrook is a premier spring sport that, as its name suggests, is divided into two distinct categories: track events and field events. The school offers a plethora of opportunities for students to engage with these disciplines, providing a comprehensive athletic experience. In the field, students participate in the long jump, high jump, discus throw, and pole vault. On the track, the program encompasses a wide range of distances, including the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, and the one-mile individual runs, as well as the 4×100 meters and 4×400 meters relays.
A typical daily practice begins with a structured warm-up routine designed to maximize physical readiness and minimize the risk of injury. This regimen includes an initial 400-meter lap, dynamic stretching, a second 400-meter lap, and targeted core exercises. By following this deliberate preparation, athletes ensure they are physically primed for the intensive training sessions that follow. Training differs for both sprinters and long-distance runners. Sprinters may work on their starts while long-distance runners figure out their pacing for the mile. To better connect as a team, we sometimes go out for long runs together to further improve all of our endurance. Practice is mostly split, either between long and short distances or field and non-field. On days when athletes need to work on their throwing or jumping, the other members of the team would go on a long run and core exercises to ensure there is not too much crowding in the field area.
Capitalizing on the beautiful spring weather, Eaglebrook athletes strive for excellence in both daily practices and formal competitions. This term, the team has participated in several high-profile track meets hosted by NMH and Deerfield, testing its mettle against formidable and respected opponents. Competing against high schools such as Northfield Mount Hermon, Deerfield Academy, Hotchkiss, and Avon Old Farms, the Eaglebrook Track and Field team continues to demonstrate impressive dedication, sportsmanship, and athletic growth by challenging athletes who may be a couple of years older or more experienced. The Eaglebrook track team also races against Bement school, a formidable opponent that is similar in both age and experience to our Eaglebrook boys and girls. Racing against Bement provides more balanced competition for our underformers.
