For over 20 years, Global Day has been a cornerstone of the Eaglebrook experience. When the school takes a break from the usual classroom routine to get outside and learn about our environment. On May 13, the whole community will set aside their assignments to work on becoming better stewards of the planet and growing closer as a school.
The journey into the natural world will be most immersive for the Third Form, who are scheduled to travel to Hurricane Island. There, students will step into a coastal ecosystem to conduct field research and support ongoing scientific initiatives. They will examine microorganisms under microscopes and explore tide pools. These students will gain a firsthand glimpse into marine health and beyond as they venture into the natural world.
Further inland, the Fourth Form will visit Camp Wilder, where the curriculum transitions toward trust and collaboration among themselves. Through a series of high ropes courses, survival shelter construction, and kayaking on Bass Pond, students will navigate a myriad of obstacles that require precise collaboration. The goal is to master teambuilding, which is an essential skill that serves as a foundation for communication and cooperation.
Since the Fifth Formers will be the school’s leaders next year, the group is staying on campus to work on local projects. Their schedule is full of different tasks like stone carving, photography, and building bat houses in the Evans basement. Some groups will make their own terrariums or learn about the plants in our Pollinator Garden. These projects are a chance for the older students to act as role models while helping keep our campus healthy.
Sixth Form students will participate in an outdoor activity day, beginning with a river cleanup to help keep our waterways free of trash. Following this, they will enjoy an exciting whitewater rafting adventure, immersing themselves in thrilling experiences. This program aims to combine environmental stewardship with adventure, fostering students’ appreciation for nature.
As May 13 approaches, the tradition of environmental appreciation remains a part of school life. Eaglebrook students continue to prove they are not just inhabitants of this beautiful corner of the world, but active visionary leaders of our future.
