The Junior Varsity 1 soccer team is continuing to thrive despite it being early in the season. The team has been developing its chemistry and fundamentals as a base we can grow from.
Our practices consist of the following: we start off with dynamic stretches to help our bodies stretch and be ready for training. Then, we start with either a passing, possession, or dribbling drill. This may vary depending on our practice/game yesterday. After our drills are complete, we move on to a scrimmage, a team split, or a shooting drill. The scrimmage sometimes includes what we learned earlier in practice. An example of this is when two wingers are allowed only on the far edges, and everyone else plays normally. This allows the team to focus more on getting the ball to the sides of the field so that we can use a larger amount of space.
JV 1 had a game on September 26 against Cardigan Mountain School. The team drove to Cardigan for a fierce game, followed by rain, and developed great possession throughout the first half, even scoring a goal. Then the rain started to fall, and as a team with limited experience playing on wet fields, we struggled in the second half. Cardigan made a lot more ball movements towards our side, even getting 8 shots on target that they couldn’t even shoot in the first half. The final score was 4-2. We could have played better, but Cardigan’s strategy worked well for the second half. Even though we lost, it was just the first game. The upcoming game against Keene Middle School is at home, and we hope to give it our all and have a great season ahead of us.
