In the 2026–2027 school year, Eaglebrook School welcomes Dr. Budde, a new Latin teacher, to our community. Dr. Budde lives at Halsted House, where he serves as a teacher, coach, and dorm parent. During the school year, Dr. Budde teaches Beginning and Novice Latin courses.

However, he spends most of his time at Doubleday teaching the Third Formers. Prior to coming to Eaglebrook, Dr. Budde was completing his PhD dissertation. Originally from Milton, Massachusetts, Dr. Budde developed his passion for classical languages at an early age. Later, Dr. Budde attended Boston University for seven years for graduate studies, where he focused on Latin, Greek, and ancient history. During this period, Dr. Budde gained his first teaching experience as a substitute Latin teacher at Thayer Academy, where he taught Freshmen and Sophomores.

As Dr. Budde joins the faculty team at Eaglebrook, he is most excited to keep challenging and inspiring the Third Formers during class and help push the Thirds soccer team towards success on the field. He is also eager to lead and participate in Mountain Club trips, especially canoeing. Throughout the school year, Dr. Budde will coach the Junior Varsity hockey team in the winter. Among these sports, Dr. Budde is most excited to coach ice hockey, as it aligns with his identity and childhood passions.

Besides coaching sports, Dr. Budde says that the biggest difference between teaching middle schoolers and high schoolers in Latin is the class size. He believes this is a very important part of the learning experience, since smaller class sizes at Eaglebrook allow him to assess each student’s needs in greater detail.

In life, Dr. Budde values hard work the most. He states that without hard work, people will not realize their capabilities. Along this journey, patience is also a key to success. However, Dr. Budde believes that relaxing is also crucial. That’s why he loves to cook with his partner Anna, play sports, and hang out with his advisees during his free time. So far, Dr. Budde has been loving Eaglebrook, and we look forward to an amazing school year with him.
